Home Hygiene: Simple Tips for Furniture Disinfecting

In addition to having a house styled to the nines, keeping it clean and spotless can be another task in itself. Consistent upkeep not only ensures your furniture always looks it best, but also ensures that your living environment is clean and safe. We’ve compiled some tips that can help keep your favourite pieces immaculate:

1. Sanitize surfaces regularly

Uncomplicated designs such as the Estelle coffee table make surface cleaning a breeze while adding sleekness to your living room.

Exposed surfaces accumulate dust and other undesirable particles easily so be sure to sanitize every so often to ensure that your home’s in top condition.

2. Ventilation

Ceiling fans provide more even air circulation throughout the room. Add plants for a fresher air flow and visual interest in the room.

Keeping air circulated and fresh is instrumental in any home. Complement your disinfecting measures by leaving windows open whenever possible, and invest in ceiling fans that provide ample air circulation.

3. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces

The Porter collection’s glass surfaces make them easy to maintain without the fear of accidentally fading paint coatings or damaging wood.

When doing your disinfecting rounds, pay attention to furniture in high traffic areas such as the living room that are prone to being frequently touched. Use towels soaked in disinfectant or bleach solution to clean off these areas effectively. However, check if the furniture material and your choice of disinfectant are compatible to prevent damage or colour fading.

4. Wash fabrics

While taking care of fabrics, don’t miss out on giving your sofa a quick vacuum, especially if it’s fabric. Opt for sofas like the Dualtone that allows for easy cushion disassembling for easy cleaning.

Fabrics can pick up dust and bacteria fairly quickly, and should be washed often to prevent accumulation of dirt. This includes (but is not limited to) cushion covers, throws and bed linen. Most small pieces can be thrown into the laundry for an easy wash with detergent, but always remember to check care labels before doing so.

5. Material care

The Greenwich sofa’s leather surface can easily be wiped down with non-corrosive solutions, and has a fabric option for those who prefer easier upkeep.

Strong chemicals are frequently used during routine household cleaning, but careless usage can often result in damaged furniture. Bleach or other ammonia-based cleaners, for example, should be avoided when cleaning leather. Wood tends to be hardier than leather in withstanding chemicals, but strong solutions or excessive usage can cause fading or coating damage.
