Comprehensive Material & Finish Disclaimer

At Commune, every product is crafted with a deep respect for natural materials and artisanal workmanship.

Due to the inherent qualities of natural and hand-finished materials, each item is distinct in character and appearance. The variations that occur are not flaws, but rather reflections of authenticity and craftsmanship that define Commune’s aesthetic.

1. General Appearance & Colour Accuracy

  • The visual appearance of fabric, leather, wood, marble, stone, glass, ceramics, and metal finishes may differ between what is displayed on digital platforms and the actual physical product.

  • Such differences may arise from lighting conditions, photography techniques, screen brightness, colour calibration, and the natural variability of materials.

  • While every effort is made to present finishes as accurately as possible, absolute uniformity cannot be guaranteed.

  • We strongly encourage customers to visit our showrooms to view physical samples, swatches, or display pieces before making a purchase decision.

2. Natural Material Characteristics

Wood

  • Wood is an organic material with unique grain patterns, tone variations, knots, and occasional hairline cracks.

  • Seasonal changes in temperature and humidity may cause minor expansion or contraction. These natural movements are normal and do not affect structural integrity.

  • Finishes may age gracefully, developing deeper tones or subtle sheen changes over time.

Marble & Stone Tops

  • Each marble or stone surface features inherent veining, crystalline patterns, pores, and tonal differences.

  • These variations are natural signatures of genuine stone and cannot be replicated or controlled.

  • Small pits or surface irregularities are to be expected and do not constitute defects.

Leather

  • Real leather bears natural markings, wrinkles, scars, insect bites, and grain differences that distinguish each hide.

  • With use and exposure, leather may develop a patina — a soft sheen and depth of tone that adds to its beauty.

  • Minor stretch marks and texture variations are signs of authenticity and are not considered imperfections.

Fabric & Textiles

  • Fabric batches (or “dye lots”) may differ slightly in colour tone or texture from swatches or earlier production runs.

  • Variations in weave tightness, sheen, or thread direction may occur due to different weaving processes.

  • Pilling, wrinkling, and slight fading may naturally develop over time, especially with frequent use or sunlight exposure.

Glass, Ceramics & Stoneware

  • Handcrafted and kiln-fired materials may exhibit minute bubbles, pinholes, colour specks, or thickness inconsistencies.

  • These subtle irregularities are inherent to artisanal manufacturing and highlight the handmade process.

Metal & Hardware

  • Metals such as brass, steel, or aluminium may experience oxidation, patina, or subtle discolouration due to environmental exposure.

  • Brushed, plated, or powder-coated finishes may vary slightly from sample to production due to process conditions.

3. Environmental & Ageing Factors

  • Natural materials will respond to their surroundings — shifts in humidity, sunlight, and temperature can alter texture or tone.

  • Over time, materials such as wood and leather may mellow or darken, while fabrics and stones may soften or develop character marks.

  • These gradual transformations are part of each product’s natural ageing process and contribute to its long-term charm.

4. Craftsmanship & Dimensional Tolerances

  • Due to the handcrafted nature of many Commune products, minor dimensional or alignment variations may exist between items of the same model.

  • Joinery lines, seams, or patterns may not align perfectly across different materials — this reflects authentic handmade assembly, not manufacturing error.

5. Care, Maintenance & Usage

  • Each material type requires specific care practices to ensure longevity. Improper maintenance may accelerate wear or alter finishes.

  • For best results, please refer to our Care & Maintenance Guide, available in-store or online.

  • Commune’s team is always available to advise on proper cleaning, conditioning, and protection methods for your product.

6. Product Development & Updates

  • Commune continually refines its materials, finishes, and construction methods as part of ongoing product development.

  • We reserve the right to modify, improve, or discontinue any material, finish, or design without prior notice.

  • Such changes will always align with our commitment to design integrity and product quality.

7. Final Note

Every Commune product tells its own story — a fusion of natural beauty, skilled craftsmanship, and time-honoured design. Variations are a hallmark of this authenticity and should be embraced as part of the living character of your furniture.
